Samsung's Galaxy S8 could lose its headphone jack, too

Samsung's Galaxy S8 could lose its headphone jack, too

While this has been a nightmare for the company, Samsung has not yet released results of its investigation into the Galaxy Note 7 battery explosion fiasco as there is no official explanation yet. But, if it was only a battery part issue and could have been salvaged by a re-spin of the battery, why cancel the product line and cede several quarters of revenue to competitors?

The Galaxy S7 Edge and Galaxy S7.Antonio Villas-Boas/Tech InsiderThis would seem to make the Galaxy S8's success all the more important - which would make any removal of the headphone jack all the more curious.

Wondering why the Note 7 fizzled and popped? According to the manufacturing company, Instrumental, that took the time to break down and analyze a Note 7, it was this cramming that made the phone prone to catching fire. If both positive and negative layers touch despite the separation, the energy flowing in the battery "flows directly into the polymer and heating".

Samsung has offered no definitive explanation for the Note 7 woes. Usual Wi-Fi 802.11ac, 4G LTE and VoLTE support should be expected in addition to an Android Nougat powered device which could have new Samsung user interface at its core. It also needs to develop eye-catching new features to restore consumer confidence in its brand.

Previous reports indicate that Samsung is launching loads of external accessories to go along with the Galaxy S8 to entice potential buyers.

The reason for dropping the 3.5mm headphone jack isn't now clear, but it may be to make the phone thinner or to free up more space inside the phone for extra features. The new color offering appears to be an effort to position the S7 as an alternative to Apple's iPhone 7, released earlier this year in two highly popular colors: jet black and matte black, according to the paper. However, the pressure under which the Galaxy Note 7 battery was housed caused these layers to come too close together and lead to handset explosions. Furthermore, there was little room left within the Galaxy Note 7 to accommodate the natural expansion of batteries over time.
