Arsene Wenger's regret: "I should have shut up completely'"

Arsene Wenger's regret:

"I don't think he wanted to injure anybody".

Arsene Wenger believes Arsenal have shown title-winning qualities this season and has praised the "relentless" nature of the side. If you ask me personally I would prefer to be on the bench.

Wenger did issue an apology and express regret after the game, but plans to plead his case for a more lenient punishment.

Wenger, who himself is also in trouble with the FA after being sent to the stands and pushing the fourth official during the same game, refused to criticise the former Borussia Monchengladbach star.

Xhaka has totalled 9 red cards since 2014 now, for both club and country.

And a match against the Blues early in February is one of the games Wenger will now miss as a result of the touchline ban.

Wenger had apologised immediately after the 2-1 win when speaking to the media and also discussed the incident in midweek.

That means he will be in the stands for Arsenal's FA Cup fourth-round match at Southampton as well as their Premier League games against Watford, Chelsea and Hull City.

"I think he's not naturally a great tackler, [but] in his decision-making I think he's quite intelligent on the pitch".

He will return to the dugout should Arsenal reach the FA Cup fifth round or for their Premier League trip to Liverpool on March 4. "I should have kept my control, even if it was in a hectic time".

Jose Mourinho intends to keep a close watch on how the Football Association deal with the misconduct charge facing Arsene Wenger.

It took a stoppage time penalty from Alexis Sanchez to bail the Gunners out and it's a sending off that could have had a severe impact on Arsenal's campaign as a whole. "I have talked with him about it and he completely denies what happened there".
