Miss France wins Miss Universe crown

Miss France wins Miss Universe crown

Iris Mittenaere was crowned Miss Universe 2017 on Sunday night in the Philippines, winning the honor on behalf of France for the first time since 1953.

Here are photos of Maxine during the swimsuit and evening gown segments!

Top Three: Miss Universe Colombia Andrea Tovar; Miss Universe France Iris Mittenaere; Miss Universe Haiti Raquel Pelissier.

Mittenaere has kept herself busy the last five years by pursuing her degree in dental surgery.

Steve Harvey's mishap at last year's Miss Universe pageant, in which he mistakenly announced Miss Colombia as the victor, is far from forgotten in the South American country - but it is forgiven.

It was an actual nail-biter, but after multiple rounds, we finally have the victor of the 65th Miss Universe beauty pageant.

"It was a very great experience for me to discover the talent of the people", she said.

When asked about what the atmosphere was like after the competition, she laughed and said everyone was excited to go back home. It was the first time the crown returns to Europe after 15 years, when Oxana Fedorova of Russian Federation won in 2002.

Some Twitter users are complaining Mittenaere's words were not properly interpreted during her final interview question. Miss France reigned supreme and rightfully so because she's the flawless embodiment of everything that Miss Universe represents, ABS-CBN News reported.

Pageant host Steve Harvey opened the show and referring to his last year's massive goof-up he said, "One thing I learned in life, when you make a mistake, you gotta keep on moving forward man, that's all".

USA's Deshauna Barber, an early crowd favorite, Mexico's Kristal Silva and Canada's Siera Bearchell made it to top 9. "Be kindhearted, believe in moral values, have confidence in myself, but also admit my flaws, that is the way to work on myself and become confidently handsome". She was not only graceful and lovely during the beauty pageant sections, but she was passionate and well-spoken during the question-and-answer portions.

The judging panel this year includes Miss Universe 1993 Dayanara Torres from Puerto Rico, Miss Universe 1994 Sushmita Sen from India, Miss Universe 2011 Leila Lopes from Angola, TV and films producer Francine LeFrack, Paper Magazine editorial director Mickey Boardman and "The Real Housewives of Atlanta" star Cynthia Bailey.
