Morgan Schneiderlin thankful to Jose Mourinho after Manchester United exit

Morgan Schneiderlin says Everton boss Ronald Koeman can help him to reach his top form again following his hard 18 months at Manchester United.

Ronald Koeman welcomed new recruit Morgan Schneiderlin to Everton while warning there are players in his squad who " don't really have a future" with the Toffees.

He completed his move to Goodison Park on Thursday, signing a four-year contract believed to be worth £20m with the potential to rise to £24m.

Schneiderlin, capped 15 times by France, joined United from Southampton for a reported fee of £25 million in 2015.

The former Southampton midfielder played only 11 minutes of Premier League football under Mourinho over three brief substitute appearances but insisted he had no issues with the United manager.

Speaking to Evertontv following the confirmation of his signing, the 27-year-old spoke of his excitement at starting fresh with the Toffees.

"I wanted to stay in England and Everton is a massive club with ambition to be in the top five or six or higher, and win trophies". "When you play football, you need to play with freedom and I didn't in my first year in Manchester. We had a good discussion and I'm happy he understood". The standout performer in Everton's midfield this season, and a player Koeman would want to keep in the team, has been Gueye.

A number of European clubs were reportedly interested in the midfielder including Marseille, though he says he wanted to remain in England. I'm sad because I like him and he could be an option for us in a long season.

Schneiderlin wrote: "I would like first to thanks all the fans of Manchester United for their support throughout the 18 months I spend with you. It was a pleasure to work with him and I look forward to it again". "Technically, I've nothing to quibble with you about", he was told by his manager at the time, Jean-Marc Furlan. "OK, we will take that decision tomorrow but he will be involved in the squad for this Sunday".

"I hope (he gets) a good, respectful reception, because he was an Everton player", Koeman said.
