Apple to launch lesser storage variants for iPhone 8

Apple to launch lesser storage variants for iPhone 8

It wouldn't be the first time.

Apple is rumored to be planning a huge event this fall - an event that'll mark the iPhone's 10th anniversary into the business. Apple may continue the trend by making 64GB the new smallest capacity, and tossing out the 32GB option altogether.

The iPhone 8 is still months away, but it has already attracted the attention of numerous smartphone fans, many of which are feverishly waiting for the upcoming device's release.

Meanwhile, TrendForce confirmed that the new iPhone 8 will not be having a curved AMOLED display, due to "issues with the 3D glass regarding production yield and drop test results".

It's always been rumored that the iPhone 8, Apple's 10th-anniversary iPhone, is going to feature a design that's conceptually and aesthetically different from its predecessors, and one of the elements making up such a notion is what's believed to be a curved OLED screen. It is possible that the Cupertino-based tech titan might keep the 32GB and 128GB models intact for the 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch iPhone 7s models. After all, Apple's bread and butter doesn't lie with inventing new technology, but rather with enhancing and improving upon existing technologies. Rumors also have it that the tech giant is finally getting rid of their iconic home button, embedding a fingerprint sensor in the display and also incorporate a 3D facial recognition scanner. Apple has a reputation for working on multiple new technologies for its devices, even though not all of them ultimately come to fruition. So basically, this may also mean that there might not be a pocket-friendly iPhone to purchase. The now shipping iPhone 7 has 2 gigabytes of LPDDR4 RAM, and the iPhone 7 Plus has 3GB.

Apple is reportedly discussing with China's BOE Technology Group about the supply of OLED displays for its future iPhone products. But this is the top-end model of iPhone 8 we're talking about here.

In terms of expected sales, about 100 million units of all new iPhones are expected to be produced this year, of which the AMOLED variant will make up the biggest share.
