At African American Museum, Donald Trump Vows to Defend 'Promise of Freedom'

President Donald Trump on Tuesday morning visited the National Museum of African American History and Culture, calling it a "beautiful tribute" to "really incredible heroes" throughout American history.

"This museum is a attractive tribute to so many American heroes", Trump said after his tour. "This museum is a lovely tribute to so many American heroes, heroes like Sojourner Truth, Harriet Tubman, Frederick Douglass, Booker T. Washington, Rosa Parks, the Greensboro students and the African-American Medal of Honor recipients, among so many other really incredible heroes".

The president arrived at the museum on the Mall in Washington shortly before 9 a.m., accompanied by an entourage that included Ben Carson, the retired neurosurgeon who has been tapped to lead the Department of Housing and Urban Development and who is featured in one of the exhibits at the popular museum that opened in September.

He said that he would return to see more of the museum.

Trump also took the opportunity to address the recent spate of anti-Semitic incidents, heeding calls from Jewish leaders and Democrats to speak out.

"We're going to do great things in our African American communities together", Trump said.

Trump also marked Black History Month earlier the month with a gathering at the White House of African American aides and campaign supporters. Ben Carson, who has an exhibit at the museum. "Hopefully next week he'll get his approval". Tim Scott (R-SC) for joining him at the museum. Attendees to Trump's February 1 event marking Black History Month at the White House were mostly friendly pastors and the White House's black staff members. I like the state of SC. "I like all those states where I won by double, double, double digits".

"Today and everyday of my presidency, I pledge to do everything I can to continue that promise of freedom for African-Americans and for every American", he added. "What they've done here is something that probably can not be duplicated", he said. We can't avoid that.
