DMK to vote against new Tamil Nadu chief minister in trust vote

DMK to vote against new Tamil Nadu chief minister in trust vote

In the morning, ruckus broke out in Tamil Nadu Assembly as a special session began or the key floor test on the confidence motion to be moved by Chief Minister Edappadi K Palanisamy.

The opposition includes the DMK with 89 members, Congress (eight) and Indian Union Muslim League (one), while one seat is vacant.

They had also briefed him about the violence during the vote of confidence and stated that the voting was taken up after 100 members were "unconstitutionally and forcibly" evicted from the Assembly.

It is a huge setback for the former Chief Minister O Panneerselvam as he managed to garner 11 votes and lost the battle against the aides of V. K. Sasikala. He had also requested the speaker for a secret ballot.

Although the O Panneerselvam camp and the opposition DMK were instrumental in stalling proceedings, demanding a secret ballot, Speaker P Dhanapal held a voice vote and declared Palaniswami the victor after all the DMK MLAs were evicted from the House. Minister KA Sengottayan was appointed as the floor leader of the Tamil Nadu assembly to monitor and manage the floor test proceedings.

"I am hurt and ashamed", the Speaker said after declaring the result of the vote, pointing to the pandemonium.

On Friday, the OPS camp announced the "removal" of Sasikala and her kin T T V Dinakaran and S Vankatesh from AIADMK, along with senior leaders, including Palaniswami.

DMK legislators gheraoed and heckled Speaker Dhanapal, demanding secret ballot. "Things would've been different if secret ballot was allowed", he emphasised.

After the first adjournment, the House resumed amid high drama. He said to have quoted, "No one can question my decision in Assembly". In fact, DMK MLA Ku Ka Selvam sat on Speaker's chair which was disrespectful.

Speaker ordered police to evict DMK MLAs from House. Ailing DMK supremo M Karunanidhi was not present in the House. He met the Governor Vidyasagar Rao and resumed his protest at Marina Beach, which has become the spot of dramatic twists since last few days.
