Donald Trump Declares Any Poll That Doesn't Flatter Him 'Fake News'

"Traditional phone polls that use live interviewers - including some of the most trusted polls in politics and media - report limited support for Trump and the controversial executive orders he's signed. Sorry, people want border security and extreme vetting", Trump wrote on Twitter.

A Gallup poll released last week found that about half of Americans said Trump was moving too fast in his new administration and 55 percent disapproved of Trump's travel ban.

And the majority of respondents to the CNN poll said Trump's executive order is indeed a ban on Muslims.

President Donald Trump kicked off the week with a Twitterstorm Monday morning by declaring "I call my own shots" and blasting negative polls as "fake news".

As per latest CNN/ORC poll, Trump has an approval rating of 44 per cent and a disapproval rating of 53 per cent.

On Sunday, an appeal court denied a formal request by the US Department of Justice to lift the suspension on the ban, which temporarily blocked all refugees and citizens of seven Muslim-majority countries from entering the US.

While the poll itself is over a week old, CNN's New Day was discussing the poll just before Trump sent out the tweet.

It's unclear exactly which "negative polls" Trump was referring to in his tweets. The people want extreme vetting and stronger border security.

Over the weekend, the New York Times published a story suggesting that Trump and his staff were reevaluating the White House's strategy after his sweeping immigration order was stopped by a federal judge in Seattle and spurred significant nationwide backlash.
