Golf's Yang makes it two out of three in Thailand

Golf's Yang makes it two out of three in Thailand

Heavy rain forced LPGA Thailand organizers to suspend second-round play.

"Wasn't easy with rain delays and 4:00 a.m. wake-up calls two days in a row".

Amy Yang swept to victory after a gruelling bout of catch-up thanks to thundery skies in the Honda LGPA in Thailand on Sunday, the second time she has taken the tournament in the last three seasons.

Yang made a complete mess of her chip from beside the green on the par-four 14th but breathed a huge sigh of relief when she drained a hard 20-foot downhill putt to match Ryu's par and keep her advantage at a manageable three shots.

One last test came when Yang, now a three time LPGA Tour victor, found a greenside bunker at the 71 hole but made a brilliant up and down to assure a four shot lead heading to the last.

None of that fazed Yang as she carded 10 birdies, 1 eagle and only 1 bogey over her second and partial third rounds on Saturday taking a 4-shot overnight lead. "Tomorrow [today] again I'll, you know, finish third round". She returned early Sunday morning and birdied the 17th to gain one more shot on the field as she closed out her third round.

She is tied for 44th after the first round. Her 1-under, 71 during the third round in 2015 is her highest score.

"I knew I had to make it, and I did", Yang said of her par putt on 14. The Japanese is the first and only player to win the HSBC Women's Champions title after victory in Thailand, going back-to- back in 2010.

Yang, who also won the event in 2015, became just the second multiple victor joining Taiwan's Yani Tseng who won in both 2011 and 2012. "And with my parents, spending time with them here, it's just great every time".
