Mexicans unite against Trump calling him a "menace"

Other Mexican cities also hosted anti-Trump marches Sunday. Among the demonstrators were Mexican historian Enrique Krauze and the rector of the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), Enrique Graue.

The number of deported immigrants from the US back to Mexico has not increased since the start of Trump's term, Mexican officials reported Monday.

Marchers were met with a heavy police presence at the rally but there were no reports of violence.

Trump has repeatedly said Mexico takes advantage of the United States through "unfair" deals, such as the North American Free Trade Agreement.

"I am personally offended by the mainstream media's attempt to distort my comments regarding Mexico and its great people".

"We are here to reject Donald Trump, to reject the idea of the wall and to support Mexican citizens who are working hard in the United States because they could not find good conditions of life in Mexico", Anadolu quoted a protester, Emiliano Montes de Oca, as saying.

A university professor, who wore a shirt that read "Nasty Women Keep Fighting - a reference to Trump calling electoral rival Hillary Clinton a "nasty woman" - said Trump's policies need to be countered by a stronger Mexican government. It is the moment to look to the future and send a message that we need sovereignty, strength and equality with our neighboring country", Graue told the press during the march.

He had also threatened to impose a 35 percent tariff on products such as vehicles made in Mexico and announced plans to deport six million undocumented immigrants.

According to a poll, 80% of Mexicans believe that the U.S.

In January following Trump's inauguration, Peña Nieto canceled his trip to Washington, D.C, over Trump's insistence Mexico pay for a new border wall.
