NATO Leaders Will Meet With Trump in May

Speaking on the executive order passed by him banning immigrants from nine muslim-majority countries, Trump said that "We need strong programs so that people that love us...are allowed in". The two leaders agreed to continue close coordination and cooperation on efforts to eliminate ISIS and other terrorist organizations, it said.

In the interview, which took place prior to his inauguration, Trump restated his campaign-trail doubts about the transatlantic alliance.

"Number one it was obsolete, because it was, you know, designed many, many years ago", Trump told The Times of London and German newspaper Bild on January 16.

The President accepted Stoltenberg suggestion to attend a meeting in Europe in May.

US President Donald Trump and NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg discussed measures against terrorism and viewed progress via a phone call on Sunday evening, an official NATO release stated.

So, what will Trump have to say to other North Atlantic Treaty Organisation leaders in May - or indeed in the meantime?

Trump is reported to be considering lifting sanctions imposed on Russian Federation since 2014, a step many Republicans and Democrats as well as European leaders vehemently oppose. "What is at stake is the very future of the European Union".

British Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn has advocated a path of confrontation by making the inflammatory proposal that President Donald Trump should be barred from his planned visit to the United Kingdom unless his administration drops its travel ban on visitors from seven Muslim countries, widely decried as a "Muslim ban".

The leaders also "discussed the potential for a peaceful resolution of the conflict along the Ukrainian border", the statement said.
