Parents Of Queens Jogger Karina Vetrano Speak Following Murder Arrest

Parents Of Queens Jogger Karina Vetrano Speak Following Murder Arrest

He lives in East New York with his mother, and police said they do not believe he was stalking or knew Vetrano.

"Karina helped us identify this person", NYPD Chief of Detectives Robert Boyce said.

Police Release New Video of Karina Vetrano on Day She Went MissingPolice have released new surveillance video showing what may have been Karina Vetrano's final moments on August 2 before she was found killed near her home in Queens.

Authorities say Vetrano was raped and strangled after she put up a fight.

Police suggested today that it was unlikely that Lewis knew Vetrano in any personal or social capacity, and believed the violence occurred following a "chance encounter".

Boyce said police followed 250 leads from the public, and filed 1,700 investigative reports.

The police began investigating Lewis after reviewing a 911 call, which was made back in May, about a suspicious person in the area, he said.

An arrest has been made in the death of Karina Vetrano, the Queens jogger whose body was found in Howard Beach six months ago. Previous efforts to identify a suspect from DNA had failed. So three incidents. That's how we were able to bring this profile up.

'My baby girl Karina went into these weeds right here and never came out, ' Phil said during a news conference Thursday.

It was through this type of DNA testing that authorities found a match with Lewis.

Lewis, unemployed, is expected to be arraigned on charges of murder and sexual assault.

Investigators have recovered DNA from Vetrano's remains, but the sample didn't match any convicted criminal in NY or around the country.

Investigators had found the DNA of Vetrano's suspected attacker on her phone, neck and fingernails, sources told The Post.

Hours later they found her body. She was about 15 feet off the trail.

The Massachusetts State Police say the investigation remains active.

The family raised more than $287,000 as of Saturday night.
