Pope Francis Warns There is No Heaven for 'Bad Hypocritical Christians'

Pope Francis Warns There is No Heaven for 'Bad Hypocritical Christians'

Pope Francis on Thursday criticized Catholics leading a "double life", such as those who assert they are "very Catholic" yet fail to pay their workers a fair wage.

"There are those who say, 'I am very Catholic, I always go to Mass, I belong to this and that association, ' " the head of the 1.2 billion-member Roman Catholic Church said, according to a Vatican Radio transcript.

The Pope's comparison of hypocritical Christians to atheists drew from Thursday's Mass readings, which included a passage from the Book of Mark where Jesus says it's better to be drowned than to lead others to sin, CNN reported. And it is an offense that the Pope wasted little time lashing out at fake Christians over and whom he said would be better off being a non-believer, an atheist, than a "bad Christian".

Perhaps most disturbing, commenting on the Charlie Hebdo massacre, Francis declared "one cannot make fun of faith" and that anyone who throws insults can expect a "punch", offering a tacit justification for terror and violence in response to a cartoon making fun of religious superstition.

"This is a double life and so many Christians are like this, and they cause scandal". Don't you remember all the offerings I made?

The Pope went on to say, "God desires a world in which men and women are bound to him and as a result live in harmony among themselves and with creation". All stolen from the poor.

"Short, pithy statements that are provocative, they get some attention and they give us an opportunity to think and reflect", said Ted Whapham, dean of the university's School of Ministry. "And so many Christians are like this, and these people scandalize others".

Looking at the text of the five books of Moses, the most holy books for Jews as well as a key part of the Christian Old Testament, Francis called the Torah "the Lord's gift, his revelation, his word" according to the Vatican's text of his remarks.

It isn't the first time the pope has mentioned atheists, either.
