Social media sharing finds the 'lost wedding dress'

Social media sharing finds the 'lost wedding dress'

The dress was sent to be dry cleaned in September and the shop shut in October.

"Now they have lost my dress and my search seems to have gone viral on Facebook".

An East Lothian woman who feared she had lost her 147-year-old wedding dress when a dry cleaning firm went bust is "over the moon" to hear it has been located.

However, after it was booked in to be cleaned by Kleen Cleaners in St Mary Street, Edinburgh, it went missing. He checked what was left by the administrators (Wylie & Bisset) and found a crumpled heap of antique lace on the floor.

She said the dress deserved more family memories "to be woven into its threads". The wedding gown was found months later after it got lost by the distressed bride with help from social media and the internet.

'My mum and dad have just been let into the shop and, to their amazement and joy, it is our dress!

She wrote, "We received a phone call from the very kind landlord of the shop property who read about it through this unbelievable response". A representative of Wylie & Bisset showed up after weeks of ignoring their pleas and insisted that for "procedural reasons" he must take it back to his office in Glasgow.

Ironically the family had chosen to take the dress to Kleen Cleaners because they believed it would be in safe hands. Facebook commenters agreed, sending well wishes to the new bride when she amended her original post with the good news. "He really searched and he found a pile of old lace which he realised was what he thought was the dress".

The soon to-be bride chose to wear her great great grandmother's antique lace dress for her wedding but her dreams came shattering down when the drycleaners she gave it to shut down abruptly.

But even though the dress was tracked down, Newall's family still had more obstacles to face when it came to getting it back.

'After the wedding the dress had to be cleaned and we were very concerned about who might be the best people to do it. "It was unbelievable." She also kept those following her story on Facebook updated with a joyful post.
