Alexa makes its iPhone debuts via Amazon's iOS app

Alexa makes its iPhone debuts via Amazon's iOS app

You can then ask the assistant nearly anything you'd normally ask Alexa via an Amazon Echo device, including asking her to make purchases for you, look up facts, or control smart home products.

Tapping the microphone within the Amazon app will summon Alexa, then the user can start asking questions similar to the way it is done through such devices as Amazon Echo.

Pressing this will activate the digital PA, letting you ask for news headlines, traffic information, or even make purchases through Amazon.

This means when iPhone users receive an update for their Amazon app, they'll be getting not just certain improvements for the app's features, but also the intelligent assistant Alexa that boasts of over 10,000 skills. And iPhone users will still need the dedicated Alexa app (iTunes link) to change their settings.

The multifaceted Alexa is the main feature on Amazon's Echo line of connected speakers. You can download the Amazon app here. Amazon has finally brought Alexa to iOS devices by virtue of its shopping app.

However, Alexa may truly challenge Siri when it comes to smart home controls.

The "skills" are in fact apps created by several developers in order to carry out tasks through Alexa.

The news is the latest upgrade to the Amazon Echo and Alexa in recent weeks as the product continues to go from strength to strength. Now in the Amazon app, the microphone option only allows users to perform a shopping-related voice search for products.

Amazon today announced that it will introduce its Siri competitor, Amazon Alexa, directly into the company's iOS app over the course of the next week (via VentureBeat). Additionally, Ford showed the beta version of its new in-vehicle Alexa controls for vehicles running the Sync 3 voice platform.

Alexa in the Amazon Shopping app on iOS will roll out to all users by next week.
