Google boss confirms release of next-gen Pixel smartphone in 2017

Google boss confirms release of next-gen Pixel smartphone in 2017

Google Assistant was available only on Pixel devices for a while, but that's not the case any longer, obviously.

According to information leaked to 9to5Google by a tipster, the Android handset is being developed by the same team that's working on the high-end Pixel 2 device we confirmed last week in an interview with Rick Osterloh, head of the Pixel team.

US carrier Vodafone has already mentioned that Google Nexus 6P smartphones under them will receive the latest update this Tuesday.

The above however tallies well with the global trend as both the Galaxy S8 and iPhone 8 are expected to see a hike in their prices. The main highlight of last year's Pixel phones was the marvelous camera, dedicated Google Assistant AI, and the purest Android Nougat experience.

This success has now raised speculation concerning Google's next move into the hardware market, and it seems that the Google Pixel 2 is already under way.

In talks with Androidpit, Osterloh shared that the tech hardware industry follows an annual rhythm and Google fans around the world can expect the same from the company as well. "You can count on a successor this year, even if you don't hear a date from me now".

The upcoming Google Pixel handset, on the other hand, is said to be waterproof, and features an improved camera.

Further while talking to the reporters, Osterloh also touched on a subject that the Pixel brand would also remain "premium".

Google is also expected to increase the starting price of the next Pixel by at least $50 and the Pixel 2B is touted to be "significantly cheaper" that is if it's launched.

This means that the device will also have a steep price tag. It is said that Google Pixel 2 will run on Android 8.0 Oreo. Now, earlier Android One smartphones were built by third party OEMs such as Spice, Micromax India but with this rumours, Google is also expected to take the Pixel approach to Android One range.

SAMSUNG'S Galaxy S8 looks set to be unveiled in April and here's how it could look. It is also not surprising that Google is releasing this monthly security patches as it is always been doing for nearly a year now. Just like we saw with the Pixel smartphones?
