Google Play Store Promoting Games Based On Engagement

Google Play Store Promoting Games Based On Engagement

In 2016, the top grossing iOS game globally was Fantasy Westward Journey that was developed by Chinese company NetEase, while that on Google Play was Monster Strike developed by Japanese firm Mixi.

Google wants to help developers be more successful in its app store. In the strikethrough pricing pilot phase, Google said developers saw increases from between 3x and 20x in installs. Traditional measures will stay in place, but this should help games that may not have as many downloads yet engages the users it does have gain more exposure. However, it is more focused on games that have "strong user retention and user engagement" numbers will be more featured on Google Play than games that do not.

This is an area where several third parties already compete for developer attention, so it make sense that Google would join the fray. Nevertheless, at least we now can enjoy proper discounts on apps that some may be hesitant to buy at full price (I'm looking at you, Leo's Fortune). These new developments will make it easier to discover new games and also see sale pricing on apps. Now, Google will automatically create a second, vertical video ad for developers, when a horizontal video is uploaded to AdWords. These pages will have links to games that have been hand-picked by Google editors that will put a spotlight on "optimal gaming experiences on Android". This news comes during Google's Developer Day 2017, known as GDC.

The company is announcing three mobile titles that are available for pre-registration on Google Play right now: Transformers: Forged to Fight, Battle Breakers and Injustice 2. This dynamic duo adds to Google and others' efforts to bring more content to the still-nascent virtual reality content space. However, Google says the playable ads may be displayed within any of the over 1 million apps on the Google Display Network. The tech giant announced that it will be promoting games with high-quality gameplay.
