Leicester City Makes History ... Again

LEICESTER qualified to the Champions League quarter-finals after beating Sevilla 2-0 at King Power Stadium, but who was man of the match?

A well-organized Leicester looked increasingly risky from set pieces and it was from a Riyad Mahrez free kick that they took the lead with skipper Morgan bundling the ball into the Sevilla net with his thigh.

Leicester went straight up the other end to ultimately put Albrighton into a similar but more hard shooting position to Pareja, but there was nothing rushed about what he did.

Sevilla, which had playmaker Samir Nasri sent off in the 74th minute for collecting a second booking for a headbutt, would have taken the game to extra time if Steven N'Zonzi had converted a penalty in the 79th.

The other last 16 second leg tie sees Juventus entertain FC Porto with the Italian champions holding a 2-0 advantage from two weeks ago.

However, Leicester have the vital away goal that could be the difference should their offensive form continue. - Wes Morgan became the first Jamaican player to score in a Champions League game.

Asked if he had spoken to Ranieri since his appointment as manager until the end of the season was confirmed, Shakespeare replied: "We haven't spoken since".

"The Leicester team that played at the Sanchez Pizjuan was a different one to this, not only from an emotional standpoint but from a football one, too". While it seemed to get to Sevilla's players, it inspired the home side. Sevilla have the European experience with three Europa League championships in a row.

At Alaves, for starters, they were playing against a team whose capabilities at home are highly underrated, with the Basque team only beaten in their own stadium by Real Madrid, Barcelona and Espanyol so far this season.

Paulo Dybala drilled in a low penalty shortly before half-time after Maxi Periera was sent off for handball. While his father Peter Schmeichel, a Champions League-winning keeper with Manchester United, watched on from the stands, Kasper stopped the penalty dead in its tracks, securing the win. Mahrez has now been involved in six of Leicester's 10 goals in the Champions League this season, underlining his worth to the English champions in what is turning out to be magical run in Europe.

On the evidence of the first leg, Leicester's task to overturn the deficit is hugely daunting, but it could easily have been an insurmountable one if the Spanish giants had been even slightly less profligate.
