QB-needy 49ers, Jets showing interest in Brian Hoyer

With Hoyer moving on from Chicago, it's clear that the Bears will be looking to add another quarterback to the mix.

Niners starter Colin Kaepernick opted out of his contract this offseason, leaving San Francisco without a quarterback under contract. Hoyer was originally signed by the Patriots and played with Pittsburgh, Arizona, Cleveland, Houston and Chicago.

The San Francisco 49ers are moving quickly to replenish their depleted roster, and they helped that process by locking in a quarterback who has starting experience under new head coach Kyle Shanahan.

There has been plenty of chatter about Kirk Cousins, but if that kind of deal does not happen, Hoyer might be an ideal bridge quarterback for Shanahan. Hoyer started 13 games that year, but had a brutal 55.3 completion percentage and 12:13 TD:INT mark.

Limited to just six games in 2016 because of a broken arm suffered in a game against the Green Bay Packers, Hoyer completed 134 of his 200 attempts (67.0 percent) for 1,445 yards and six touchdowns without an interception. In his only playoff start, however, Hoyer threw a career-high four interceptions in a loss to Kansas City, which ultimately led to his release.

Hoyer's signing with the 49ers also solidifies the notion that the Bears are going to sign Mike Glennon.

An eight-year National Football League veteran, Hoyer has passed for 8,608 yards with 44 touchdowns and 26 interceptions in 49 games (31 starts).
