Bayern Munich clinch fifth straight Bundesliga crown with win at Wolfsburg

Bayern Munich clinch fifth straight Bundesliga crown with win at Wolfsburg

Bayern Munich empathetically wrapped up their 5th successive Bundesliga title on Saturday evening after defeating 10 man Vfl Wolfsburg 6-0 at the Volkswagen Arena.

Goal number 28 - taking the Poland striker past Borussia Dortmund forward Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in the Bundesliga scoring charts - arrived on the stroke of half-time.

"It is awesome what this team did again this season in the Bundesliga", said the retiring Bayern captain, Philipp Lahm.

It was a game that Die Roten never let go of and after dominating possession, they made quick work of a poor Wolves side with three goals in each half.

"This Bundesliga season was a fantastic experience", he said.

"It wasn't a foregone conclusion we would win the title with three games left to play". There are still a few games left in the season, but this one was the most significant for the two, as they celebrated winning silverware for the last time.

The Bavarian stars wore red T-shirts with a palm-print picture and pointed with their five fingers, referring to the crown of the crown for the fifth time in a row.

"We deserved the title, we played nice football".

Saturday's win was the fifth time they had scored five or more.

Asked about the recent vote of confidence from club CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, whom he embraced after the final whistle, the coach said: "The club supported us all season in good and bad moments".

Bayern got a free kick just outside the box and Alaba stepped to it. 19-year old Portuguese midfielder Renato Sanches was also sent on as a substitute late in the game.

Bayern were not quite done, though, and Wolfsburg were hit for six when Robben's cross from the left was collected at the far post by Kimmich and he drilled past Casteels.

Cologne defender Neven Subotic was celebrated by supporters and players on his return to his former club.

Eintracht beat Gladbach in a penalty shoot-out in Tuesday's semi to book their place in the final on May 27 against Dortmund.

Nico Schulz did just that, combining with Lars Stindl twice for a goal and an assist in Gladbach's 2-1 win in Mainz.

Darmstadt claimed a 3-0 win at home to Freiburg courtesy of goals from Felix Platte in the 22nd minute, Jerome Gondorf in the 45th and Sven Schipplock in the 65th. The home side's first three-win streak of the season means it can not be relegated this weekend.
