Hawks' Millsap ready to match Morris, Wiz with 'MMA' style

Millsap was visibly frustrated at times during the game with the Wizards' physical play and said after the loss that "the difference in the game was we were playing basketball and they were playing MMA".

Now he's promising to dish it back.

Speaking with the media before Game 2 on Wednesday, Morris took an opportunity to troll Millsap for the dig.

Bradley Beal overcame a slow start to score 22 points, and Markieff Morris contributed 21 points, seven rebounds and four blocks in his National Basketball Association playoff debut. Backed by a new playoff career-best 32 points, along with 14 dimes, Wall steered the Wizards back from a halftime deficit to a 13 point third quarter lead.

"When they got it going, they're hitting tough shots in the first half, some you've just got to live with, we played great defense", Curry said.

Frustrating Millsap is part of the plan for Washington.

The Wizards held off the Hawks in Game 1 thanks to 19 turnovers from Atlanta.

"He's like, just reboot the computer every miss and just focus on making the next shot", Brooks said. Markieff is "a very competitive guy". Note that charting a game is as much of an art as is a science, so it may not perfectly reflect some stats you might see at NBA.com or ESPN.com, but my intention was to take the most objective approach I could in my effort. "He's a tremendous competitor and he plays with toughness and he gets shots - 32 and 14, that's high level All-Star game". Millsap, who finished with 19 points, made 9-of-11 from the free throw line. He doesn't plan to ease up on Millsap any time soon. "I guess if that's MMA, then what we do next might be double MMA".

All that scrambling inside could create more tension like Sunday's altercation.

Words were exchanged. Morris didn't really remember after the game what he said, or he just wanted to appear like he forgot.

"Kells, we need his intensity the whole game", said Morris following Game 1. "It's all love of the game".

It's not the talk that bothered Millsap, though. He went up against Millsap most of the game and had a dunk off the ally oop during the Wizards' big third quarter when they went on a 20-7 run. Neither team has more than just a solid wings, but the lower seed have more useful players and deeper bench. "I can't let (anybody) come out here and just push me around".

"I think it's important that we control the other two guys, [Bradley] Beal and Wall", Millsap said Monday according to the Journal-Constitution.

After losing to Atlanta on the very first day of the season, the Wizards have won the next three meetings to win the series 3-1.

"He changed everything right away for us", Wall said. Horford has now scored in double figures in each of his last six post-season games.

"Like I said a year ago when we first got [Morris], I was excited", said Wall, referring to the midseason trade with the Suns that brought Morris to the District.

Mahinmi is the backup center but he logs a lot of minutes and is the team's best rim protector. "He's doing everything to help our team win, and when he's playing as well as he did today for us, we're unstoppable".
