Intel Could Launch Its Next Processors Early Because of AMD Ryzen

ArchitecturesAMD's new Ryzen chip is based on its Zen microarchitecture, built on a 14nm FinFET manufacturing process and utilising a new AM4 socket. With 6 cores and the ability to handle 12 simultaneous threads, AMD's Ryzen 5 1600X ($249 MSRP) often trounces Intel's Kaby Lake-based Core i5-7600K (4 cores and threads, $242 to $243 recommended price) in productivity and content-creation benchmarks.

Intel is feeling the pressure of AMD's successful Ryzen CPU launch and is bringing its own product refreshes forward, according to a report from Taiwanese supply chain tracker Digitimes.

However, it's important to note that AMD's Ryzen 7 1800X processor isn't the only new chip in the new lineup. For nearly the same features and even better base clock speed, the Ryzen 7 is so much cheaper for half the prize of its Intel counterpart which sells for $1,021 at Amazon. Both the 1700X and 1800X have a TDP of 95W, while the regular 1700 is rated at 65W. Intel is so used to ruling the roost in PC chips that AMD's Ryzen chips seemed to come out of nowhere, and all reports points to those chips causing Intel a lot of pain. Meanwhile, check out the latest review on AMD Ryzen 5 in the video below! Intel famously retired its "tick tock" strategy of alternating biannual architecture and process changes with the Kaby Lake generation, adding a third "optimisation" step. However, because AMD is going after the resurgent PC gaming market, its Ryzen chips are overclockable and thus can be run at much faster speeds than advertised.

Intel also plans to unveil its Basin Falls platform, with Skylake-X and Kaby Lake-X processors at Computex 2017, which takes place from May 30 to June 3, which is two months earlier than originally scheduled.

Coffee Lake, while highly anticipated, is expected to deliver only slight performance gains, similar to the improvements Kaby Lake chips received after Skylake.

The company claimed that its Ryzen CPUs are the game-changers and it has proven to be true.
