Johanna Konta v Caroline Wozniacki: Miami Open women's final

Johanna Konta v Caroline Wozniacki: Miami Open women's final

Just a year separates the pair, yet for Konta, her projected rise on Monday to No. 7 in the World marks a career high against a former World No. 1 who now has finished the bridesmaid in all three of her finals reached this year.

Konta, who in June 2015 was the world number 146, will climb to seventh from 11th in the rankings - her highest yet.

After another break each, the Briton took advantage of two double-faults from the Dane to break to 5-4 and serve out for the set. "Plus, it's one of only two similar rentals on the island right now", a real estate agent said. Often, once ahead, Konta will just put pedal to the metal and race off into the lead, and when she broke the Dane at the start of the second set, it felt like déjà vu, but Wozniacki was having none of that, breaking straight back.

Speaking on court she said "Congratulations Johanna, you played really well today, you deserved the win, you played better than me".

Johanna Konta: "I'm definitely going to be looking forward to playing a lot of balls and a lot of tough points".

She clinched victory with a perfectly-weighted lob that landed on the baseline for her second title of the year, after winning in Sydney in January. We'll play another time and I'll try my best to win. She ran a marathon for goodness sake. "I've won a lot of matches this year". They do not sound too glamorous but this is only one tier below the Grand Slams - the tournaments that it no longer seems fanciful to say she could win.

I'm sure it'll be a match where I'll be running for a lot of balls but hopefully we'll give a great match for the final, "via Sky Sports".

In her two finals this year, both in February, Wozniacki was beaten by Pliskova at Doha and by Ukrainian Elina Svitolina at Dubai.

Konta, so almost eliminated in the quarter finals and who struggled through her opening match against the world No 120, was rewarded for her more attacking intent against the Dane.
