Mousasi stops Weidman by TKO in confusing end at UFC 210

BUFFALO – Some things are worth the wait. Pictured: Cormier poses for UFC 200 at T-Mobile Arena on July 8, 2016 in Las Vegas.

UFC 210 had a little bit of everything: A shock retirement, a baffling and controversial decision, knockouts, and plenty of thrills. Here's a look at just a few of the many things that went down Saturday night at the KeyBank Center.

As the dust settles on a dramatic UFC 210, with Daniel Cormier coming away still champion of the light heavyweight division and Anthony "Rumble" Johnson announcing his retirement after his loss, all eyes immediately turned to Jones.

Thiago Alves returned to welterweight to secure a unanimous decision over fellow veteran Patrick Cote - and end his opponent's career.

It's a rematch of their fight at UFC 187 in which Cormier first won the belt. Johnson will have the edge early, but Cormier is a smart fighter and he will be able to avoid being knocked out in the first round. It is just time for me to move on to something else. "I mean, this is where he's from, I get it, but if it was me, and I was in this situation, I wouldn't here", he said.

That Johnson lost the fight isnt surprising, but his tactics inside the octagon were. "He just so happened to be undefeated outside of myself".

Even Johnson's corner seemed perplexed. At one point, long-time coach Henri Hooft yelled, “This is stupid.”. You can't beat me, you know it. Thats absolutely insane, ” he said.

Before he got to the post-fight mic, however, he was forced to make way for a surprise announcement as Johnson retired in the cage, the second time during the pay-per-view that a veteran fighter hung up his gloves.

Gegard Mousasi of the Netherlands claimed a chaotic victory over Chris Weidman after the cageside doctor called the fight off amid confusion over UFC's new rules. "I want to thank the people of Buffalo".

A fighter must not knee someone in the head if they have their hands on the ground but replays showed Weidman's hands were marginally lifted so Mousasi's devastating blows were legal and legitimate.

Mousasi and Weidman were upset after the fight. Like, I'm not even fighting you, what are you going to do? I think that was an illegal knee.

Mousasi's win streak improves to five but this victory won't do anything to clear the already muddied waters of the middleweight division.

Johnson leapt in again at the second round and pressed Cormier to the fence, leaning on him. I want to do something besides going to the gym every day, punching and kicking and rolling around with another dude - s*** gets old. "Seven minutes. I would demoralise him".

"Of course I'd fight Jon Jones, but Jimi Manuwa said he wants a title fight".

“He wears sweat suits. He's a pretty big guy and a freak athlete, so anything is possible. I don't feel that I should let this young man have so much control over me and my legacy. "Dude's done ... I would demoralize him".

It should also be noted that Jon Jones was in attendance sitting cage side.

"Jimi Manuwa, you don't want any of this", Cormier said. That's my opinion on that.
