Record-setting West Indies beat Pakistan in 1st ODI

Record-setting West Indies beat Pakistan in 1st ODI

The upcoming series against West Indies will be my last. "I have been thinking about it for a while now", he said.

All told, Misbah has led the country 53 Tests, winning 24 losing 18 and drawing 11, since taking over in 2010.

Misbah led Pakistan to the pinncale of the Test format past year when they topped the International Cricket Council rankings and said the achievement remained the "highlight of my career".

The feat earned him widespread acclaim throughout the cricketing world. Such was his dejection that an early retirement would not have surprised many and frankly at that point, Misbah could have easily joined the long list of has-beens who had flattered to deceive in their desire to play for Pakistan.

But the veteran has always been expected to call time on his illustrious career, with former Pakistan cricket heavyweights demanding he step down in January after a 3-0 rout in Australia. However, leaving the 0-2 thrashing against the Black Caps, followed by 0-3 whitewash against Australia, he has been the shining star for the side.

Former International Cricket Council (ICC) president Zaheer Abbas said that Misbah has achieved what every captain dreams of doing: leave a legacy.

"Opponents know about his strategies and Misbah has spent that in a glorious way". Thus despite many challenges, Misbah played his innings as a player and as a captain superbly.

Misbah said heavy punishment should be given to guilty players in the PSL scandal.

"But I will continue playing domestic cricket or T20 leagues".

"There were many hardships in my career but for now I am focusing on the present situation".

The second ODI is on Sunday. Pakistan gave legspinner Shadab Khan an ODI debut on a surface expected to favour the spinners.

"It will be my last series and I had conveyed this to the chairman [of the Pakistan Cricket Board] quite some time ago", Misbah said while speaking to reporters at the Gaddafi Stadium yesterday. Likewise, out of a total of 131 ODIs, Pakistan won 58 while it had to suffer defeat in 70 matches.

Misbah has played 72 Test matches so far, scoring 4951 runs and is now seventh on the list of Pakistan's highest Test run-getters.

The top order batsman also played 162 one-dayers before quitting the format after the 2015 World Cup.
