Samsung's Bixby won't say hello to you until later this spring

The global launch of the new Galaxy smartphones is slated for April 21, which includes India as well. "Bixby Voice will be available in the U.S. on the Galaxy S8 later this spring", the statement reads. United States was supposed to be the only other market where Bixby Voice would be available at launch, but that is sadly not going to be the case anymore.

Although it is technically similar to the other companies' digital assistant, the Samsung Bixby is taking a different approach.

Unexpectedly, the company today dropped a bomb by announcing that Bixby assistant is still in works and it won't ship with the Galaxy S8 that is releasing in the USA on April 21.

Bixby was one of the flagship new differentiators for the Galaxy S8.

But delaying Bixby Voice may be a sign the company learned from the Note 7 crisis. Show Bixby the photo of a book cover and it can give you a summary, tell you the price, show you reviews and so on. The software will be installed on the phone and some features will be available, but voice control for Bixby will not be available when the S8 launches in the USA 21 April. Home, Vision, and Reminder would be available to the users from the day of launch, but the Bixby voice won't be available to the users until Spring 2017.

Bixby is expected to become more and more capable in the coming months and years as more and more apps feature voice activation. The South Korean tech giant's latest virtual assistant accompanies features like camera and text-powered searches. It was dubbed as one of the most exciting features on the Galaxy S8, giving competition to Apple's Siri, Microsoft's Cortana, Amazon's Alexa, and Google Assistant. Instead of answering the questions, Bixby will help you to control your device through voice command.
