Star Wars: Episode IX gets an official release date

Star Wars: Episode IX gets an official release date

Whatever the reason for the announcement, Star Wars: Episode IX will officially hit theaters in just over two years, and that's definitely welcome news.

The news comes via Variety without any details or fanfare.

Lucasfilm and Walt Disney have announced new release dates for Star Wars: Episode IX and the fifth Indiana Jones movie. In a blog post on StarWars.Com, it was confirmed that the film will be directed by Colin Trevorrow.

Lucasfilm recently unveiled the first footage of Star Wars: The Last Jedi, which releases on December 15, during Star Wars Celebration. Disney also has another "Star Wars" spinoff, this time focusing on a young Han Solo (played by Alden Ehrenreich), hitting theaters on May 25, 2018.

On Tuesday, an offical press e-mail from Disney listed all the release dates for upcoming feature films through the year 2021.

Disney have been unveiling a string of release dates and 2019 is truly going to belong to the studio.

Rogue One was also a December release, coming out in December 2016, and that's why most people were expecting the next Star Wars films to come out in December. If you can believe it at that point Harrison Ford will be nearly 78. While The Force Awakens was released in December, as is the case with The Last Jedi, every other installment of the Skywalker saga has been a summer release.

The still-untitled Indiana Jones movie was pushed back a year and is now set to arrive in theatres on July 10, 2020, with Steven Spielberg returning as director along with star Harrison Ford. Let us know down in the comments.

Jon Favreau's live-action Lion King musical will be out 19 July 2019.
