Why Netflix's '13 Reasons Why' Is a Must See

(Facebook) Katherine Langford, the actress who played Hannah Baker on Netflix's "13 Reasons Why".

Headspace said that in the weeks since 13 Reasons Why's debut, the service had seen a growing number of calls and emails directly related to the series. The show was created by Brian Yorkey and the first two episodes were directed by Tom McCarthy.

The series was based on a popular young adult novel by Jay Asher and was executive produced by Selena Gomez.

The show's engaging and thorough plot is one of the many reasons this show is so great.

Suicide contagion refers to a process where a suicide or suicidal act within a community or geographical area will increase the likelihood that others will attempt or die by suicide.

Yet, no movement has been made to do the same for the show, as this would be an attack on a huge media power in the economy.

Each of the 13 cassette tapes reveals one person whom Hannah blames for her death and explains how their actions contributed to her suicide. He is shocked to hear the voice of his friend Hannah Baker who ended her own life not long ago.

Headspace's national manager of school support Kristen Douglas said the show "exposes viewers to risky suicide content and may lead to a distressing reaction by the viewer, particularly if the audience is children and young people". They have to see something that's frightening and follow these people.

Each episode focuses on one of Hannah's classmates that talks about her relationship with them and reveals some heartbreaking truths about how they hurt her, from spiteful rumours to betrayed friendships and even revealing some troubled secrets about the people she talks about, which they are desperate to make sure they stay a secret.

In the new Netflix series "13 Reasons Why", high schooler Hannah Baker's suicide note is divided into seven cassette tapes, and each episode is split up by which side of the cassette is being listened to: side A or side B. When her co-worker Clay first receives the box of cassettes, they show up on his doorstop in a heavy shoebox, slathered shut with paper and tape.

Kate Walsh also gives an emotionally demanding performance as Hannah's grieving mother as she tries to find answers as to why her daughter committed suicide as well as dealing with her own grief.

Another reason why the show is so fantastic is the wide variety of characters throughout the show.

Criticisms are circling online that the characters in the show are not good examples of what young people should do in the event of a mental health crisis or suicide, but in its defense, the story was never meant to be a PSA. In one scene, Minnette was able to show the mixed emotions Clay was feeling while he was riding his bike listening to one of Hannah's tapes.

Speaking to a panel of journalists in February, Gomez said 13 Reasons Why was a personal project for her because she could relate to the pain of the characters in the story.
