Acting FBI boss contradicts Trump over Comey

Acting FBI boss contradicts Trump over Comey

Over and over, for two days, U.S. President Donald Trump, Vice-President Mike Pence and the rest of their administration said Trump fired Federal Bureau of Investigation director James Comey only at the recommendation of a senior official in the Department of Justice.

The comments apparently contradict the administration's earlier explanation for Comey's firing. The New York Times Editorial Board penned an open letter to Rosenstein criticizing his memo to Trump, and many Senate Democrats have said they now regret voting for him. "There's no good time to do it, by the way". "He made a recommendation, but regardless of recommendation I was going to fire Comey".

Democrats quickly accused him of using Mr Comey's handling of the Hillary Clinton email probe as a pretext and called for an investigation. He made a recommendation.

"Regardless of recommendation I was going to fire Comey", Trump said.

'It's hard to avoid the conclusion that the president decision to remove Director Comey is related to this investigation. "It is done, and I will be fine, although I will miss you and the mission deeply". And Pence knew it and he said otherwise. "It hasn't recovered from that".

"I actually asked him" if I was under investigation, Trump said, noting that he spoke with Comey once over dinner and twice by phone. Chuck Schumer, the Senate minority leader said his involvement in the firing of Comey had brought his "integrity" into question.

McCabe's testimony contradicted the White House on two key points. And I said, 'I'll consider. "We didn't see it coming, and we don't think Director Comey did anything that would lead to this". Sitting beside the heads of the CIA, NSA, and Office of the Director of National Intelligence, McCabe got a rough political baptism as senators grilled him over the circumstances surrounding Comey's firing, and the status of the investigation into Trump's Russian Federation ties.

McCabe testified it was not typical practice to tell people they were not a targets of an investigation.

Mr Trump has insisted he is not under investigation, and he dismissed the FBI director he fired as a "showboat" and "grandstander".

"I found [Comey] to be one of the most ethical, upright, straightforward individuals I've had the opportunity to work with", Burr said. "If Russia did anything, I want to know that".

"I can not defend the Director's handling of the conclusion of the investigation of Secretary Clinton's emails, and I do not understand his refusal to accept the almost universal judgement that he was mistaken", Rosenstein wrote. At her Wednesday briefing, Sanders said the FBI "is doing a whole lot more than the Russian Federation investigation", and that even though the media "would like to think that's the FBI's sole responsibility...that's probably one of the smallest things that they've got going on their plate".

Outraged Democrats called for an independent investigation into the Trump campaign's possible ties to Russia's election interference, and a handful of prominent Republican senators left open that possibility.
