Arsene Wenger praises devilish Alexis Sanchez after brace against Sunderland

Arsene Wenger praises devilish Alexis Sanchez after brace against Sunderland

Arsene Wenger insists Sunderland goalkeeper Jordan Pickford is not on Arsenal's radar as the Gunners already have plenty of options between the posts.

The victory over Sunderland leaves Arsenal one point behind fourth-placed Liverpool ahead of their final match of the season against Everton.

Arsene Wenger hopes Alexis Sanchez will continue proving his worth at Arsenal for the long term after the Chilean global led the Gunners to a 2-0 victory over Sunderland on Tuesday (16 May) by scoring two goals.

Under-fire Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has never finished outside of the top four in a full season at the helm but despite this win, and even though it remains mathematically possible, the club look set for a Europa League campaign next year.

Arsenal were always dominant but spurned their opportunities before Sanchez turned in a Mesut Ozil cross from close range in the 72nd minute. If we won, it would be the first time you make 75 points and you are not in the top four.

The Sunderland manager, David Moyes, took issue with Wenger's pre-match comments about how teams with nothing left to play for were sometimes "on holiday".

Meanwhile, Manchester City are three points ahead of the Gunners after beating West Brom - and only need a draw at Watford to secure Champions League qualification. What is for sure, if we win our game, we can only be far from one point.

Arsenal will host Everton on Sunday.

'Because in the two games we were leading 1-0 and we got caught in the second half.

"When you have a player like this in your team, to show the way we want to grow together, it is important and I think he has a lot of players behind him to keep him. You want all the teams to fight like Sunderland did tonight and, after, you have to accept the result".

Wenger's own position still remains a mystery as he has yet to announce if he will sign a new deal to remain at the club beyond the FA Cup final meeting with Chelsea in two weeks' time.

"We had a hard patch after the Bayern game because it was hard to recover".
