East finals trip on line as Wizards, Celtics head to Game 7

It also would be the Celtics' first trip to the conference finals since 2012, the last such run made by Boston's since-departed Big Three of Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce and Ray Allen.

NOTES: Game 7 is slated to start at 8 p.m. ET Monday night.

FOR all the jockeying during the regular season to ensure home-court advantage, there has been little payoff in the playoffs.

The Wizards will now be trying to be first team in this matchup to win on the opponents home floor in 2016-17.

Now everyone will find out what Game 7 has in store. The franchise has appeared in a respectable nine Game Sevens, but the last time was in the 1979 Eastern Conference finals against the San Antonio Spurs. The Celtics and Wizards are winless on the road against one another, and only a couple of the games have even been close.

That's the laundry list of controversy that has surrounded the only series to go the limit in these National Basketball Association playoffs.

"It's great. You always talk about it. All we asked for is one more game, and we got it".

"The best players play at their best in those type of situations", Thomas said of the club's opportunity in this game. The Celtics wanted to host the funeral for the Washington Wizards' season, a nod to what the Wizards wore during a regular-season meeting between teams who share animus toward one another.

Boston, which won Game 5 at home by 22 points, led Game 6 by 69-66 entering the fourth quarter, when a relatively blah game became much more compelling. Wall has been averaging 27.9 and 10.3 assists per game this postseason. That lifted the Wizards to a 92-91 victory, snatching away the Celtics' hopes of advancing. Pictured: Isaiah Thomas prepares to shoot as John Wall defends in Game 6 of the second round of the 2017 NBA Playoffs at Verizon Center in Washington D.C. on May 12, 2017.

PRESSURE IS ON: Thomas and Wall.

Wall's heroics came after Al Horford's jumper with 7.7 seconds left put the top-seeded Celtics ahead 91-89. Washington countered thanks to its dynamic backcourt.

Markieff Morris had 16 points and 11 rebounds for Washington.

KEEP AN EYE ON: The scoring production of Wall and Beal.

"Everybody is going to look at it their own way", Stevens said.

Celtics 3-point shooting in the Garden: 44.4%. The Wizards have virtually zero experience when it comes to Game 7's.

Washington's Bradley Beal had 33 points and Wall scored 26 despite shooting 9 of 25 from the field.

The Celtics have played in a whopping 29 Game 7s in their storied history and have won 21 of them. Apart from Thomas's 53-point performance in Game 2, he hasn't taken over ball games.

Wall and Beal both shook off slow starts. When the Wizards blew a 10-point lead to a Boston team that shot just 35 percent from the field in the first 24 minutes, it appeared the Celtics were appropriately dressed when their players walked into the arena wearing all black (mimicking the Wizards, who dressed in all black for a January 24 game against the Celtics, signifying a funeral). Eastern Time from TD Garden.
