Everton coach Koeman gives ultimatum to Barkley

Koeman has also stated that the club require a final decision from Barkley by the end of this season as they need clarification before starting their summer spending.

The Everton manager also said that he wanted to sign players to compete for Barkley's position this summer.

Ross Barkley remains undecided on his Everton future and is set to miss Ronald Koeman's deadline to commit himself to Goodison Park.

And the Everton manager insists that the deadline on the England global will not be pushed back until the beginning of the new campaign in August.

"I like to work with players who want to stay".

Everton have given Barkley a week to decide if he will sign a new deal at Goodison Park, which if he doesn't, should lead to Ronald Koeman stealing a march in the expected race for Costa's signature.

"The board is already working a long time [in the hope that] Ross will stay for a longer period", the Dutch manager said ahead of Friday's Premier League clash with Watford.

"But we don't wait until August".

Swiss worldwide Valon Behrami is expected to be drafted into the team alongside Abdoulaye Doucoure. "We all know it will be hard".

Mazzarri, however, is determined the campaign, which has been plagued by injury problems, will not just fade out.

"It is normal in the Premier League to have these moments - West Ham lost five in a row, West Bromwich Albion lost four". With a full squad we were seventh in the league.

Mazzarri added: "We reached 40 points with six games left, and now we will see how well we finish".

The Dutchman has repeatedly criticised his player in public over the way he is developing, and earlier this season he was struggling to get into the first team.
