Fox News co-president Bill Shine resigns

Fox News co-president Bill Shine resigns

Fox News co-President Bill Shine has resigned and will leave the network within a few weeks, Fox News announced Monday afternoon.

Bill Shine, co-president of Fox News Channel, has become the latest executive to resign in the wake of a sexual misconduct scandal at the cable channel.

A longtime Fox News executive, Shine was promoted to president after Fox's former CEO Roger Ailes was ousted following accusations of sexual harassment.

Fox News has maintained its status as the top-ranked cable news network despite the loss of Ailes and O'Reilly, its top-rated prime-time star.

Hannity had no statement about Shine's departure, the Fox News spokeswoman said.

A press release from 21st Century Fox states Shine will be replaced by Suzanne Scott, who will take over some of Shine's duties as the new president of programming, while Jay Wallace will become the president of news.

Shine's familiarity with high-profile Fox News figures was said to be invaluable, yet damaging revelations kept coming, not just about Ailes but about host Bill O'Reilly, too.

In response, Fox News provided a statement saying the information is "completely untrue", per The Daily Beast.

If you thought your Monday was bad, at least you're not Fox News.

"This doesn't fix Fox News's harassment problem".

Who is chosen, and whether that person comes from within Fox News or from the outside, likely will indicate who's in charge: the elder Murdoch, his son James or, to a lesser extent, James' brother, Lachlan, who shares the title of Fox's executive chairman with his father.

Reports about Hannity's likely departure came following the network's co-president Bill Shine's resignation Monday. And now, Bill Shine is gone. Other top hosts who left the network are Megyn Kelly (who starts on NBC in June) and Greta Van Susteren (now on MSNBC).

Andrea Tantaros, a Fox personality who had accused Ailes of sexual harassment, said nothing had been done after she complained of his behavior to Scott.

More broadly, Shine has been under suspicion for his close association with Ailes over the years, and over what role, if any, he played in helping Ailes maintain silence in the face of allegations of harassment and employee intimidation.

"Suzanne and Jay are recognized industry leaders".

Media reporter Gabriel Sherman, whose previous reporting indicates a number of well-placed sources at the network, tweeted Hannity has a "key man clause" allowing him to terminate his contract with the network if certain people were fired.

Technically, Fox News doesn't have a CEO following Ailes' dismissal. Scott has been with FOX News since 1996, serving in all production and creative areas.

Some at Fox believed Shine gave the network stability and continuity as it was buffeted by the Ailes and O'Reilly episodes.
