France warns against republishing hacked Macron campaign emails

France's election campaign commission is investigating a hacking attack on presidential favourite Emmanuel Macron's political movement and the leaking of documents online. The leaked files are believed to contain strategy documents, financial data, and personal correspondence from Macron's En Marche! campaign.

Campaign officials said the perpetrators of the hack - revealed just two days before the election - had mixed fake documents with authentic ones "in order to create confusion and misinformation".

A separate poll by Odoxa said a quarter of the French electorate was likely to abstain in Sunday's vote, many of them left-wing voters disappointed after their candidates missed reaching the runoff.

"Clearly, the documents arising from the hacking are all lawful and show the normal functioning of a presidential campaign", aides said in a statement. WikiLeaks said there were around 9 gigabytes of data in total.

Calling this defamation, Macron filed suit against Le Pen on Thursday for the accusations.

Macron acknowledged the French are exasperated by the government's ineffectiveness, but he dismissed Le Pen's vision of an infuriated country.

Le Pen's father Jean-Marie Le Pen was critical of his daughter's performance, saying most viewers would probably have found the first part of the debate incomprehensible.

Reims is deeply intertwined with French history and Joan of Arc - a nationalist symbol adopted by the FN. As of the close of official campaigning Friday, Macron lead Le Pen 60 percent to 40 percent.

The suspect, a 34-year-old Muslim convert, was arrested early Friday after police found his vehicle near the base.

"This was confirmed the latest TV debates, polls and the Paris protests".

You'd think that this difference would be enough to make things certain that Macron will win the second round on May 7th, especially given that pretty much every other first round candidate has urged their voters to block Le Pen. Macron, a moderate, faces off against National Front candidate Marine Le Pen on Sunday.

She is "strongest on borders and she's the strongest on what's been going on in France", Trump said on Twitter.

The turnout for the first round of the election was close to 78 percent, according to the interior ministry.

He has led a remarkable campaign, defying the traditional mainstream parties courtesy of his En Marche! movement.

"Yes. I want most of all to put democracy back in place. we must re-weave the links among people", she said.

He said Friday he had chosen as his prime minister someone with enough political experience to help bring together a legislative majority but refused to name his choice.

Macron has been endorsed by President Francois Hollande, Republican candidate Francois Fillon and the Socialist Party's Benoit Hamon, but he is not universally liked.

As Le Pen's party began to acknowledge that she may be headed for defeat - her niece Marion Marechal-Le Pen, a National Front lawmaker, said a 40 percent score would be "an enormous victory" - another, former, US president got involved three days before the runoff.
