Jose Mourinho gives Paul Pogba update ahead of Southampton clash

United will round off their league season with an away game against Southampton on Wednesday before a final game at home against Crystal Palace on Sunday.

"The most important thing for us now is having one less match to play", Mourinho said in comments reported by BBC Sport.

"For us, it's more important to win titles than to finish [in the] top four".

We know that if we lose the final we won't play in the Champions League next season.

That poor run of form has seen them drop to sixth in the table and they are now certain to finish outside the top four. We want to fight for the result, I don't want to field a team where people think we are not fighting for the result. Moreover, United were besieged with injury troubles and Mourinho made it clear that it was impossible to fight on two fronts with just 15 players. There were no injuries and it's one less match to play because at this moment the Premier League matches for us are matches we don't want to play.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Marcos Rojo, Luke Shaw, Ashley Young and Tim Fosu-Mensah miss both of United's remaining Premier League matches through injury, while Mourinho is expecting to be without Paul Pogba at Southampton after the midfielder's father died on Friday.

"I am fine with what we had in terms of individual performances", he added. "I can not do that to the kids".

"When we can make seven changes with the team, this has allowed different players to recover, and this will allow us to finish strong this week".

"But like this I never had this situation of you play a final and the game that you should play that day is going to be postponed for the last week, the last week!"

"Two bad goals conceded, but it's a positive game for us".

For the first time ever the UEFA Champions League final will also be available through a number of 360°streams on YouTube and the new BT Sport Virtual Reality App, allowing viewers to choose between a 360°produced programme with commentary and graphics, or select their own camera viewpoint.

The game is likely to be a drab affair considering United's commitments and the Saints' position as neither side will go for the jugular.

"I want to congratulate all and say thank you to the fans, players, my staff because all together we work so hard to achieve all that we achieve this season", said Tottenham head coach Mauricio Pochettino. "Tottenham played well but we could have done better".

Tottenham will have to get over their Wembley jitters to do that, but the future certainly looks bright as their new stadium takes shape.
