Kasich Says More Facts Are Needed Before Talks of Impeachment

Kasich Says More Facts Are Needed Before Talks of Impeachment

Of course, high-ranking Trump officials who attended this meeting, and who did go on record - who were quite willing to be publicly named - disputed the fact the president gave information to the Russians that was classified, never mind highly classified. As you know, President Trump came under increasing fire after dismissing FBI Director James Comey.

Kasich said he was open to the idea of a select special committee but wasn't ready to join Democrats in their call for a special prosecutor.

"There's something odd going on, I think, with Mr. Trump", Sanders said.

The tone of Sanders statement suggests that Republicans better step up or get out because Trump must be held accountable for his actions.

"John is right. I don't think you want to make that leap to impeachment until you follow a path which leads us there. But I didn't do that because I was mad at him", Kasich said. Patty Murray told me the reason exchanges "are in jeopardy right now is because of the uncertainty that they are facing with the Republicans going after repeal right now". But I'm going to try to figure it out. When Tapper asked Kasich if he's concerned that Trump "doesn't have the competence to be president", Kasich said Trump "doesn't understand all the things about the job", but there's "a learning process for everybody" and he hopes Trump "will become a unifier, will more understand the gravity of this job, stop the tweeting, and bring people together".

Earlier in the town hall, Kasich made clear he wasn't there to defend Trump. He also said the people around Trump should be explaining the gravity of the information he's revealing to Russian officials, and said the firing of Federal Bureau of Investigation director James Comey wasn't good timing. Just to Kasich's left, a woman stood up to say she was terrified about the future of health care, saying, "I struggle with mental illness". He added that the investigations in the Senate and House must continue. I can't do any more.

Mr. Kasich's latest book was released in New York April 25, and since then he's been a guest on numerous political talk shows.
