Kelly Clarkson joining 'The Voice' as coach for 14th season

Kelly Clarkson joining 'The Voice' as coach for 14th season

Following news that Jennifer Hudson will join the coaching panel for Season 13, Kelly Clarkson confirmed she'll be a coach on Season 14. Clark said she hoped to defeat Shelton in her first season.

What is even worse is that her fellow Idol alum, Jennifer Hudson has also joined The Voice!

NBC has not yet said who the fourth coach will be for its 14th season.

The choice is interesting because Clarkson was the first victor of American Idol, the show that birthed the singing competition series boom. Rumors are swirling that Carrie is in high demand to sit in a judging seat on either the NBC show or Idol, which was announced earlier this week to be heading to its new home, ABC, in 2018.

NBC is adding a chart-topping singer to the lineup of coaches on its singing competition "The Voice".

Clarkson previously appeared on "The Voice" as an advisor. The news follows speculation that Clarkson was tapped to judge the ABC revival of American Idol. The other coaches will be Miley Cyrus, Adam Levine and Blake Shelton.

It had been speculated that Kelly Clarkson would return to the show, which she won in 2002 and forged a successful music career from. "We've got back and forth about a role as a coach for years, but the timing hasn't been right until now".

Kelly Clarkson has officially chosen a stint on The Voice over returning to the show that helped her rise to fame, American Idol. Cowell, who gained notoriety for his no-holds-barred critiques of "Idol" contestants, admitted that, the last time he tuned in to "Idol", it "was not the same show, just the same name". "She's like, the flawless person to judge on a show like that". Not only is she a powerhouse vocalist, but also she has been in this industry for so many years.

Clarkson has been on the second season of "The Voice" back in 2012.

Simon Cowell and Randy Jackson mingle on the red carpet in Los Angeles, California at the American Idol finale May 20, 2009.
