NC attends ECI's all-party meet in New Delhi

AAP said that during the challenge, EC should talk on-camera to voters who filed affidavit to complain about rigging of their votes after taking print of time stamp of machines in presence of political parties and magistrate at the controversial booths.

Other electoral reforms such as corporate funding, making bribing of voters a non-bailable offence and disqualifying candidates charge-sheeted by courts for offering bribe to electors also came up for discussion.

All the seven national and 35 of the 48 State recognised political parties are attending the meeting.

BJP leader Bhupender Yadav said that during the meeting with Election Commission, the political parties have expressed their views that VVPATs will ensure transparency in elections. The poll panel will soon evolve a framework in this regard. But strangely, the political parties remained divided on the issue of reverting to ballot papers in place of EVMs at the end of the marathon meeting in New Delhi.

Leaders of 13 parties met Election Commission officials in April to convey their "complete loss of faith" in the EVMs and to demand use of VVPAT (voter-verified paper audit trail) and paper ballots in future polls.

Even as it held a meeting with all political parties at the Constitution Club in New Delhi, the commission sought to dispel doubts over the credibility of EVMs.

"Will offer opportunity to parties to demonstrate EVMs in recent elections were tampered or EVMs can be tampered with even with laid down safeguards", Zaidi said.

The BJP, however, rubbished the allegations of the AAP, saying that EVMs have a 'robust foolproof design.' It is the same party which raised questions about the voting machines post-electoral loss in 2009 general elections.

Rubbishing the claim that the EVMs are tamper-proof, Congress leader Digvijaya Singh said, in the affidavit submit by the Government in the Aadhaar case, it has mentioned that in today's world of technology, no machine is full proof which can not be tampered.

VVPAT is a machine which dispenses a slip with the symbol of the party for which a person has voted for.

Mr Zaidi said that VVPATs of EVMs upto a definite percentage determined by the Commission will also be subjected to counting and it will evolve an appropriate framework in this regard. "We have shown it in the assembly", Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia said and demanded a hackathon.

Following the allegations, Rawat had recused himself from the cases related to disqualification of AAP MLAs the commission is hearing.
