Penguins forward Bryan Rust injured on high hit from Dion Phaneuf

Penguins forward Bryan Rust injured on high hit from Dion Phaneuf

Penguins forward Bryan Rust was entering the offensive zone with his head down, and Phaneuf crushed him. Rust took a nasty hit from Dion Phaneuf in that same first period and was also forced to exit.

The Pittsburgh Penguins are on their way to Ottawa to face off against the Senators in Games 3 and 4 of the Eastern Conference Final.

D Trevor Daley (lower-body injury) continues to skate on his own, but he didn't play in Game 2 vs. Ottawa on Monday. It's being speculated that the Penguins could dress seven defensemen and 11 forwards.

The team confirmed on Tuesday morning that the trio are all day-to-day with injuries, and will travel to Ottawa with no set timetable for their return.

"It's a big challenge obviously, I haven't played in a while", Streit said. "We're hopeful that they're making progress, but they will not play tonight".

Schultz crashed hard into the boards in the first period and left the ice immediately.

"Any time you have adversity like that, it's easy to fold".

And this is why Penguins general manager Jim Rutherford went out and got guys like Streit and Ron Hainsey at the trade deadline. The Penguins just hope that's possible if any of the Rust, Hornqvist, and Schultz trio are unable to draw into the lineup.

Streit hasn't played in the postseason this year but has 784 career National Hockey League regular-season games under his belt, experience captain Sidney Crosby said would be key if he joins the lineup.
