Senate issues subpoenas targeting Michael Flynn's businesses

Senate issues subpoenas targeting Michael Flynn's businesses

The California congressman added that he is skeptical Flynn would be granted immunity in exchange for his testimony and information, something the former national security adviser has requested from the committees.

Congressional investigations have a longstanding history of coordinating with any simultaneous federal probes to avoid inadvertently damaging the Justice Department's ability to levy prosecutions in a given case.

Brennan was so anxious about the Russian interference, through hackers and those involved in the distribution of the stolen data, that he called the head of Russia's Federal Security Service, or FSB, Alexander Bortnikov, to warn him that the meddling could harm ties.

The committees want Mr Flynn to provide information on whether there was Russian interference in the 2016 election and whether there was collusion between Donald Trump's campaign and Russia.

The House of Representatives Intelligence Committee in the USA has revealed its intention to subpoena former national security advisor Michael Flynn.

The Times said some of the Russian officials bragged about ties to Mr Flynn, and others thought they could use Mr Manafort's association with former Ukrainian president Viktor Yanukovych, who led a pro-Russian political party, to their advantage.

Brennan warned Bortnikov again and the foreign leader repeated his denial but said he would take Brennan's concern to Russian President Vladimir Putin, Brennan testified.

The conversations focused on Paul Manafort, the Trump campaign chairman at the time, and Michael T. Flynn, a retired general who was advising Mr. Trump, the officials said. Page has denied any involvement in Russian attempts to influence the election.

Both Coats and Rogers had turned down the request, which was made to them by the President after then-FBI director James Comey confirmed investigation into the allegation. He also said that, when he stepped down from the Central Intelligence Agency as Trump took office, he still did not know if there had been collusion.

These revelations came from a highly classified report that was confirmed by three current and former USA officials, all of whom claimed anonymity for fear of prosecution.

And since the last hearing Trump fired Comey, the Department of Justice appointed a special counsel to oversee the FBI's Russia investigation and it was revealed the president allegedly tried to halt the FBI's investigation into his former national security adviser, who was sacked over conversations he had with the Russian ambassador.

Schiff spoke to reporters at a breakfast Wednesday hosted by the Christian Science Monitor.

"There may a series of cases where we have facts about people having contacts with Russians prior to the campaign and sharing of information that may fall short of legal collusion, but still be factual that we need to report to the American people in terms of our counterintelligence investigation".

The Senate panel responded to that letter Tuesday by issuing two new subpoenas for information from Flynn's companies, arguing, as vice chairman Sen.
