Cosby prosecutor undeterred by mistrial, vows to try again

Andy Lassner, executive producer of The Ellen Show, wrote " I BELIEVE YOU" to the women accusing Cosby of sexual assault. Brian McMonagle, who has been representing Cosby says that the fact that the jury ended in a mistrial makes it obvious that it should end and that no further proceedings should be allowed to continue.

Cosby was charged with three counts of aggravated indecent assault, all focusing on the alleged assault of Andrea Constand, 44, who was then manager of the women's basketball team at Temple University, where Cosby was a member of the board of trustees.

VETERAN American entertainer Bill Cosby walked home a freeman yesterday after a U.S. judge declared a mistrial in his sex assault case.

Yesterday, they came back and told the judge they were hopelessly deadlocked.

Stay tuned on this one.

Cosby had broken barriers as the first black actor to star in a network show, "I Spy", in the 1960s and, two decades later, created the top-ranked "Cosby Show".

In 2005, prosecutors declined to charge Cosby based on Constand's account that the celebrity offered her unidentified pills that left her unable to stop his advances. Totally unethical. How do I describe many, but not all, general media?

As they deliberated charges that could send him to prison for the rest of his life, Cosby tweeted thanks to his fans and supporters.

Chloe Goins, a former model who claims Cosby drugged and sexually abused her at the Playboy Mansion in 2008, is also suing the comedian on sexual battery and other claims. O'Neill instructed them to keep working toward a unanimous decision.

Three of the questions were requests to review what Cosby said and another two were about the testimony of his accuser, Andrea Constand. "In other words, it's too early to celebrate Mr. Cosby".

Jurors have already discussed the case for more than 50 hours since Monday, leading to Cosby's lawyer to push for a mistrial.

He reminded prosecutors and the defense that "a mistrial is neither vindication nor victory for anybody".

Cosby, who faces at least four separate civil lawsuits, refused to testify at the trial.

Cosby's lawyers have said he and Constand were lovers and that the encounter was consensual.

No one from Cosby's real or TV families was in court Saturday when the case ended in a mistrial.

But the entertainer had kept positive, McMonagle said.

Constand is just one of dozens of women who have accused Cosby of giving them pills and then sexually assaulting them but she is the only woman whose alleged assault became the focus of criminal charges.

Several accusers were in court all week awaiting a verdict and wearing buttons that read "We Stand in Truth". "Because he drugged her to do this", the prosecutor told jurors.

But Cosby's reputation remains in tatters, following a slew of sexual assault allegations from about 60 women that have destroyed the "America's dad" image he built as star of the long-running 1980s TV comedy "The Cosby Show".

Cosby has suggested he hopes to resume his career and his role as a public moralist.

The Associated Press does not typically identify people who say they are victims of sexual assault unless they grant permission, which Constand has done.
