Defense fails Cavs in 113-91 Game 1 loss in NBA Finals

Steph Curry is gearing up for a shot at redemption as the Golden State Warriors prepare to take on the Cleveland Cavaliers for the second year in a row at the NBA Finals.

If Durant leaves the $3-plus million on the table, Golden State would be able to retain the likes of Andre Iguodala and Shaun Livingston and also sign Stephen Curry to a super-max contract. Draymond Green and Klay Thompson were phenomenal on the defensive end.

LeBron James scored 19 points in the first half and finished with 28 points, 15 rebounds and eight assists. Curry scored 14 third-quarter points with the help of four three-pointers.

After long layoffs for both sides after the conference finals, the first few minutes of the opener of this Golden State-Cleveland series has been more about working through a bit of rust more than anything else.

But the Cavs are down by just eight at the break, 60-52.

Kevin Durant drove through the lane untouched for dazzling dunks. He averaged a quiet 13.8 points in the first two rounds, then busted out for 22.6 points and 12.4 rebounds per game against Boston in the Eastern Conference finals.

Whatever got said in the Golden State locker room at halftime worked.

So even with nine days off before the series began against Cleveland, Curry is sticking with it. I don't think it will jolt our guys at all.

As fans we can only hope for the seven-game thriller we received previous year.

It's unclear if JaVale McGee was trying to send a message when he arrived at Oracle Arena for Game 1 of the NBA Finals.

Brown addressed the media pregame on Thursday and said he hadn't yet spoken to Kerr.

Making his first appearance in the NBA Finals since his Oklahoma City Thunder lost to LeBron James' Miami Heat back in 2012, Durant busted open the dunk highlights early on for the Warriors as he battled James and his Cleveland Cavaliers in Game 1. But Steve is so conscientious about the players - and you know the storyline and all these other things - that he wants to make sure that he feels good enough to come back and do it on a full-time basis and not rock the boat with anyone or not cause a distraction from our team. Golden State Warriors forward Kevin Durant (35) shoots against Cleveland Cavaliers forward Kevin Love during the first half of Game 1 of basketball's NBA Finals in Oakland, Calif., Thursday, June 1, 2017.

After a 346-day wait, the NBA Finals are back and it's as if nothing has changed.

This marks the first time in National Basketball Association history the same two teams played in three straight Finals and just the fourth time it has happened in the four major sports leagues. Never before now had two teams met in three consecutive Finals. Cleveland will try to play lockdown defense as Golden State bombs away three point shots as it runs and guns.

This will be star-studded affair with Golden State's Kevin Durant joining the mix as one of seven 2016 All-Stars in the series.
