Seoul won't downsize military drills in exchange for nuclear freeze: Moon

Seoul won't downsize military drills in exchange for nuclear freeze: Moon

A South Korean delegation indicated skepticism about deployment of the Terminal High Altitude Area Defense, or THAAD missile defense system for South Korea.

Moon also challenged Trump's complaint that the US goods trade deficit is too high.

South Korean businesses are highlighting investments and other plans that will help create jobs in the U.S.as the Asian country fends off criticism over a growing trade imbalance in its favor. Moon was chief of staff to then-President Roh Moo-hyun from 2003 to 2008, which means he was part of an administration that actively pursued "sunshine policies" - that is, policies of greater political and economic engagement with the North. In fact, South Korea has spent an "enormous amount of money to help host US troops in their country including through things like. the new base, south of Seoul, which 92 percent of that cost was shouldered by South Korea".

Pyongyang accused the CIA of working with South Korea's spy agency to assassinate Kim Jong Un with a biochemical weapon in May. "And yet, a discussion is necessary if there is a need for the Korea-U.S. FTA to improve for a more mutually beneficial relationship".

The future of Korea's free trade agreement with the U.S.is anticipated as one of the biggest issues on the table at the two-day bilateral summit in Washington, where President Moon Jae-in and 52 Korean corporate leaders will meet their American counterparts. "Criminals of disgusting state-sponsored terrorism who hatched and pressed for the heinous plot to hurt the supreme leadership of" North Korea.

South Korea will not reverse the planned deployment of an advanced USA missile defense system, its top diplomat said Monday, reiterating the government's stance apparently aimed at easing uncertainty surrounding the agreement with the United States reached by the previous government.

For the most part Moon focused on the positive side of the economic relationship between South Korea and the US noting, "While world trade has decreased by 12 percent for the last five years due to global economic depression, trade between two countries has increased by 12 percent".

The North, now under a raft of crippling United Nations sanctions over its military programs, says it will continue them until the USA ends its hostility toward the country. The Trump administration is considering whether to impose tariffs or quotas on steel imports.

North Korea has already conducted nearly a dozen missile tests this year and is preparing to conduct another nuclear test aimed at producing nuclear weapons. He will meet with U.S. President Donald Trump on Thursday and Friday to discuss pending issues concerning the two countries' alliance as well as North Korea's nuclear arms program.

The DPRK has got enough evidence to prove that Park started plotting to kill Kim since late 2015, said the statement.
