Trump budget chief defends plan in face of opposition

It claims the Trump tax cut will stimulate the economy so much it raises $2 trillion, enough to pay for itself.

It uses eight pillars: affordable health care, eliminating outdated regulations, developing American energy - specifically, electricity and transportation fuel, reducing federal spending, and reforms in the tax code, immigration policies, welfare system and education. It is a despicable way to try to excuse a heartless, cruel budget clearly created to somehow keep campaign promises no matter what. That's $1.1 billion or, in budgetary terms, about two and a half percent of the $43 billion in new spending that Trump is proposing for the Pentagon.

"This defense funding is vital to rebuilding, modernizing, and preparing our Armed Forces for the future so that our military remains the world's preeminent fighting force and we can continue to ensure peace through strength", the opening letter says.

Carson - who himself grew up in poverty to become a widely acclaimed neurosurgeon - said people with the "right mind set" can have everything taken away from them, and they'll pull themselves up. That this ideology would lead to monstrously, even cartoonishly, evil policies like cutting job training, food stamps, and health care, while cutting taxes for rich people, probably makes this a good time to go back to the ideological drawing board.

Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin, Education Secretary Betsy DeVos, and Agriculture Secretary Sonny Perdue are also testifying before House panels.

"I have news for you: If we don't get to 3 percent growth, it's unlikely we'll ever get a balanced budget again", Mulvaney said, asking lawmakers "how pessimistic can you be" to think 3 percent is impossible.

In fact, despite promises to the contrary, Trump would end Medicaid health care as we have known it for 50 years - a promise that nursing home care, a child with a complex condition, or people with severe disabilities would not live in destitution.

Another savings - $40 billion over 10 years - comes from not allowing undocumented immigrants to collect the child-care tax credit or earned-income tax credit even if their children are USA citizens. In a press conference today, Office of Management and Budget Director Mick Mulvaney stated that the additional funding cuts to Medicaid result from a reduction to the growth rate for the per-capita cap, compared to the AHCA.

This didn't sit well with some elected officials. It's to fund a needless increase in military spending, put a down payment on a grandiose southern border wall, and cut taxes in pursuit of magical growth. Without it, many more of them would be working.

"There's no scintilla of evidence, certainly over the past 25 years, that tax cuts are responsible for stimulating economic growth", he said.

"As a farmer, your biggest factor is mother nature, this insurance provides the protection you need to stay in business and cover input costs for the crop in the ground", Iowa Corn Growers Association president Kurt Hora said in a release. On average, the federal government reimburses states $1.33 for every dollar they spend on the program.

Medicaid is facing even bigger cuts.

In a webinar, Bloomberg Government analysts discussed the details of the spending plan, reviewing proposed agency cuts and increases, the program and agency eliminations sought by the administration, and other aspects of this opening move in what will be a long process. The administration also wants to tighten work requirements for those getting aid, such as food stamps, or Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits.

-New parents: The budget plan includes a new paid-leave program for the parents of newborn children.

"Further, shuttering the National Endowment for the Humanities and the National Endowment for the Arts would close off the long-standing USA commitment to the advancement of our culture and society", McPherson said. "For this budget to work, you need a time machine to take us back to the 1990s".
