War Machine Sentenced To Life In Prison

War Machine, was today sentenced to life in prison in a Las Vegas, Nevada, courtroom for his brutal attack on ex-girlfriend Christy Mack nearly three years ago, which sent her to hospital with horrific injuries and has left her emotionally scarred most likely forever.

Former mixed martial arts fighter Jonathan Koppenhaver, aka War Machine, addresses the court before his sentencing at the Regional Justice Center on Monday, June 5, 2017, in Las Vegas. That means, best case scenario, he won't get out of prison until he's 71 years old.

Mack fought through tears when she told District Judge Elissa Cadish on Monday that she still fears for her life if Koppenhaver were to leave prison. "I do know that when he gets out he will kill me".

"He has beaten me many times before, but never this badly", she said. Christy told jurors that she was lying in bed, clothed, with her boyfriend Corey Thomas, when War Machine stormed into her bedroom, He beat and raped her, and attacked Corey as well. At trial, Koppenhaver's defense mentioned issues he had in his youth, notably a hatred toward his mother. Leiderman, who said Koppenhaver suffered brain injuries and used steroids during his fighting career, had sought the minimum sentence of 16 years in prison.

Koppenhaver said at the hearing that he had found God and regrets every day what he has done. She had a broken nose, broken bones around her eyes and numerous other injuries. "This has helped me begin to grow into a real man", he said.

Mackinday appeared at the sentencing Monday, asking for the maximum sentence.

After learning his sentence, War Machine spoke about the incident and admits that he regrets what he did. "I was a very, very lost, very empty person", Koppenhaver said in a statement via ESPN. Plain and simple. I've known that a long time and I've hated it.
