Woman accused of leak indicted, faces detention hearing

This June 2017 photo released by the Lincoln County (Ga.) Sheriff's Office, shows Reality Winner.

Winner's mother told NBC News on Tuesday that victor "would not jeopardize anybody's safety" and was "terrified" when she returned to her home in Augusta on Saturday to find federal agents waiting for her.

AUGUSTA, Ga. (AP) - A federal judge ordered a young woman charged with leaking classified US documents to remain jailed until her trial after prosecutors argued Thursday she might possess more stolen government secrets. In fact, an online news outlet recently published an article dealing with a leaked, classified NSA document.

Government contractor Reality Winner made explosive comments about burning down the White House in notebooks the Federal Bureau of Investigation found in her Augusta, Georgia, residence, according to a prosecutor who spoke in U.S. District Court on Thursday.

The FBI says victor was working as a government contractor last month when she copied a classified intelligence report containing top-secret information and mailed it to a reporter.

Winner's mother, Billie-Jean Davis, said she's anxious the Trump administration - which has been focused on shutting down the constant stream of leaks - is going to try to make an example of her.

She's being held at a county jail in Georgia until her detention hearing Thursday afternoon.

Winner's mother and stepfather told the judge she had no criminal history and they would use their 20-acre home in Kingsville, Texas, to finance her bond with confidence she would never run.

Reality Leigh Winner, 25, reacted the same way as a lot of young people nauseated by Donald Trump's rise to the White House: She started trolling him on social media.

Reality Leigh Winner, 25, is accused of passing a top secret National Security Agency report to The Intercept while working as a contractor with Pluribus International Corp.

The Intercept posted a statement on Tuesday saying that they had "no knowledge" victor was the source of the document they received. She is a former Air Force linguist who speaks Farsi and Arabic. She wrote, "I want to burn the White House down".

"On or about May 9, victor printed and improperly removed classified intelligence reporting, which contained classified national defense information from an intelligence community agency, and unlawfully retained it".

Neither prosecutors nor Winner's parents have identified the government agency where she worked at the time of her arrest.

"She's a veteran, six years' service of the Air Force", Davis said to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

The hackers are believed to have then used data from that operation to create a new email account to launch a spear-phishing campaign targeting US local government organizations, the document said.

"She was afraid she was going to disappear, that [the government was] going to make her disappear", Winner-Davis said.

A 25-year-old government contractor for a USA intelligence agency has been charged with sending classified material on Russian hacking to an online news outlet last month.

"If she made this mistake", Davis said, referring to the leaked documents, "it needs to be balanced against what she has done in the past and how she has served this country". However, by June 3, victor had already confessed, according to special agent Garrick, apparently admitting to removing the classified reports and mailing them to The Intercept.
