Millions Of Verizon Customer Records Have Been Accidentally Exposed

However, according to CNN Tech, "No loss or theft of customer information occurred". "The data repository... appears to have been created to log customer call data", Branch explained, before adding that the "data repository...was fully downloadable and configured to allow public access". A "senior Verizon employee" told ZDNet that "the company was unaware that the data was being exfiltrated or exported, and Verizon had no control over the server".

Nice Systems says that the exposed data was "part of a system demo" with no further elaboration. It wasn't patched until June 22. Vickery also discovered earlier this year that some information of almost 200 million voters was exposed by a data firm working for Republican Party clients.

An Israeli technology company has exposed millions of Verizon customer records, ZDNet has learned. While the culprits look to now have a lot of your personal information, the PIN numbers on the accounts where not compromised.

Verizon, the U.S. telecommunications juggernaut, has admitted that the data of at least six million of customers, including names, addresses, account details and account PIN numbers, were exposed online. And, while you're at it, ask Verizon to do a little more about security. According to UpGuard's cyber risk team, a "misconfigured cloud-based file repository" owned by Israel-based NICE Systems made a wealth of customer data accessible to the public.

The phone giant confirmed that its customers' information - including their cell phone numbers and pins in some cases - had been incorrectly placed in an insecure cloud storage area. UpGuard, which discovered the Verizon data leaks is the same company which found out that the voter data had been leaked in June.

In a statement to IBTimes UK, a Nice Systems said: "Reports erroneously confuse a human error at a project with inaccurate past reports related exclusively to a business that Nice divested several years ago and no longer has anything to do with our business". In addition, to the extent PINs were included in the data set, the PINs are used to authenticate a customer calling our wireline call center, but do not provide online access to customer accounts.

UPDATE: Verizon has responded to the breach by saying no information was stolen. He called it "the latest in a series of disturbing data breaches". Last month, UpGuard discovered exposed personal information belonging to more than 198 million registered US voters stored in an Amazon S3 bucket belonging to data firm Deep Root Analytics.
