Guy Stabbed For His Neo-Nazi Haircut Reportedly Made the Whole Thing Up

The alleged story spawned headlines such as Fox News" "Anti-Fascist Stabs Innocent Man Over "Neo-Nazi' Haircut". A man affiliated with the white nationalist group has been charged with second degree murder for allegedly driving his vehicle through a crowd of counter protesters, killing one woman.

Witt claimed the man stabbed him in the hand.

The post was shared tens of thousands of times.

Witt had initially posted his claims via Facebook (which has since been deleted), detailing the alleged attack. As Yahoo News' Gordon Hurd noted, the style is similar to that worn by white nationalist Richard Spencer. When presented with this information, Witt confessed to police that he had fabricated the story. Rather, the 26-year-old phoned his grandmother. He also reported the allegations to police. Actually, he cut himself and made up a story about being stabbed by someone who asked if he was a neo-Nazi, according to the Denver Post. He told officers he had been the victim of a stabbing.

When police confronted Witt with that information on August 24, he admitted accidentally cutting himself with the knife while in his vehicle parked in front of the store. Reporting crap that never happened is a crime, and Witt will be prosecuted for it. If convicted, he could face up to a year in jail or a US$2,650 (€2,200) fine. Photos showed a deep gash in Witt's hand, his jeans soaked in blood, and blood splattered on his auto. Reached Monday, a Navy spokesman at the Pentagon said he would research the matter but did not immediately provide a response.

Witt blamed his haircut for the alleged encounter - a kind of inverted mullet-style (business on the sides, party on the top) now popular among urban beardsmen and Hitler Youth wannabes alike. They interviewed him and discovered he wasn't involved. The motive for allegedly making up the divisive story has not been publicly speculated upon.
