Iran's Supreme Leader Endorses Rohani For Second Term

On August 3, Rouhani took an oath in front of Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

For Rouhani, who had hoped his second term would focus on rebuilding the stagnant economy, "it's unfortunate timing", said Ellie Geranmayeh, an Iran analyst with the European Council on Foreign Relations. Among those in attendance at the ceremony was former President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, who fell out of favour with the establishment and was notably barred from standing as a candidate.

Hossein Khezli Kharazi, CEO of Iran's Bank Keshavarzi Securities Company, told Trend that, TSE would experience a steady growth over the second half of the current Iranian calendar year (23 August-21 March), as a result of the formation of President Hassan Rouhani's second government. The Trump administration hit the ground running, re-imposing sanctions against Iran in its first weeks in office and also instating restrictions against those who are complicit with Tehran.

The United States is undermining the Iran nuclear deal by imposing sanctions on the country, a ranking Iranian official said Thursday on state TV.

Tehran says the new measures violate its 2015 deal with world powers that eased sanctions in exchange for curbs on its nuclear programme, an agreement which US President Donald Trump has repeatedly threatened to tear up.

The president also pointed to the 2015 nuclear deal between Iran and world powers and said "the JCPOA has shown Iran's goodwill to engage in constructive and effective interactions on the worldwide stage".

"So far we consider that all parties have been implementing their commitments under the deal", Catherine Ray, a spokeswoman for European Union foreign policy chief Federica Mogherini, told a press briefing in Brussels.

Based on the deal, nuclear-related sanctions on various Iranian business and financial sectors were lifted, but it put more strict limits on its nuclear program.

Separately, on July 28, the Trump administration sanctioned six Iranian entities after Iran tested a space launching device.

Ray said the joint commission allowed for the Iranian view on new United States sanctions to be widely discussed. Iranians re-elected Rouhani as the President in the country's May, 2017 elections.

During the event, Rouhani received his validation edict from the Supreme Leader.

He gained 57.14% of the votes.

His nearest conservative challenger Ebrahim Raisi got 38.5 percent of the ballots.
