Missing Swedish Journalist Headless Torso Found At Sea

Missing Swedish Journalist Headless Torso Found At Sea

Metal had been attached to the body and had "deliberate damage" inflicted in a possible attempt to ensure it sank, police said.

Ms. Kim Wall is the Swedish freelance journalist and she was 30 years old.

Her headless torso was found this week. Police believe Madsen deliberately scuttled it. Authorities later found it and brought it up on to land for investigation.

Ingrid continued: "She has found and told stories from different parts of the globe, stories that must be written".

"The tragedy has hit not only us and other families, but friends and colleagues all over the world", the family told the Associated Press.

Ms Wall's family have said she was working on a story about the submarine builder, who also has an interest in private space travel.

"She was never reckless", Ms. Clerici said. "She gave a voice to the weak, the vulnerable and marginalised people. It's a voice this world needed for years to come, but that has now been silenced".

Mr Madsen, who has denied the allegations against him, has insisted Ms Wall died in an accident on board and that he dumped the body in the water at an undefined location in Koge Bay, south of Copenhagen.

The inventor was charged with manslaughter on August 11 and ordered to be held in custody for 24 days.

The heartbreaking last photo of Wall shows her on the vessel's tower with Masden, looking out to sea.

"When I chatted with her on WeChat in July, she told me they'd rented an apartment and could move in after August 15". Following his rescue, Madsen told TV2 that he'd experienced "a minor problem with a ballast tank [that] turned into a major issue", and that "it took about 30 seconds for Nautilus to sink".

Danes with whom Moreno has spoken about the case say the circumstances are very odd and that they have questions about Madsen's changing accounts of what happened, he said.

Madsen's biographer, Thomas Djursing, describes him as someone who has made a lot of enemies and was prone to getting into arguments.

Norway-based investor Georg Poul Artmann, who holds about 75% of the shares in the Rocket Madsen Space Lab company which owns the 40-ton, almost 60ft (18m) long submarine, told Denmark's Berlingske newspaper he will "clean up" within the firm following recent events but gave no details.

But restaurant owner Bo Petersen said the area was well covered by CCTV and he handed the video footage to police, with the tapes apparently showing no sign of Wall being deposited on the shore.

Ms. Franzén remembered her friend - who was a graduate of the London School of Economics and had two master's degrees from Columbia University - as not only courageous, but also modest. Her work appeared in the New York Times, the Guardian and TIME among others.

"Not just a crime-novel tale": Quartz's Hanna Kozlowska writes about a person who deserves more coverage than the the gruesome details of her apparent murder.
